As a medic with the 38th Infantry Division, Woody Hasty saw some of the worst that World War II had to offer. His discharge papers list his campaigns as southern Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea. He never talked about it to his wife, ever.

Woody only talked about the war with his buddies during annual reunions of Company B, 113th Medical Battalion, said Barbara Hasty, who recently donated her deceased husband’s military possessions to the Indiana National Guard’s historical archives at Stout Field.

BUTLERVILLE, Ind. – On Monday, April 24, at approximately 10 a.m., a notional, 10-kiloton nuclear dirty bomb was set off in Weehawken, New Jersey. On Tuesday night, at close to midnight, the first military responders were lined up at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in southern Indiana, which represents the outskirts of the bomb blast radius, in order to look for victims and survivors.
